Surf The Channel releasing source code!
Posted by: bigbolshevik in Entertainment, Open-source application software, Web/TechToday, Surf The Channel “left its legacy on the world”. It has announced that a more basic, trade-secret-stripped version of its source code will be released under an open-source license at some point in time.
That’s great! I personally hope it will be the Affero Public License, but that all depends on whether STC will want to incorporate community changes into its own system and still keep its own system proprietary (the APL forbids this). I think they’ll release under a BSD or MIT-style license, but even this is rather good.
And now that we know STC will be staying around, we can still post links like there’s no tomorrow.
I had the idea that this might be their plan, so it was a pleasant half-surprise for me this morning.
